Sound Intensity Mapping of Small, Noisy Devices
- Measured the radiated acoustic intensity of a small device in a semi-anechoic chamber, creating a sound intensity map (see below).
- Localized the regions of high sound radiation up to frequencies over 10 kHz.
- Supplemented the sound intensity measurements with laser vibrometer measurements. This helped to further localize the sound sources, and determine the radiation efficiency of components.
| Sound Intensity (dB) measured on a cylinder surrounding the device. The cylinder of points is unwrapped to form a sound intensity map. | ![]() |
| The vibration of the structure was measured on a mesh of points along the device. High vibration regions correspond to regions of sound radiation. | ![]() |
