2 Nov 2011: KCF Technologies Supports the Rozalia Project's Goal of Cleaning the Seas; State College, PA - The Rozalia Project for a Clean Ocean concluded a record-setting year, and gave credit for some of its success to KCF Technologies’ Smart Tether - an innovative, very simple to use, non-acoustic navigation system that offers real-time GPS positioning for remotely operated underwater vehicles, along with advanced scanning, mapping, and target-marking functions. According to Rozalia Project Founder Rachael Miller, the KCF Smart Tether was able to “make our work much easier,” giving “the ROV's exact latitude and longitude [to] allow us to mark the location of marine debris. on Google Earth,” an ability “invaluable to our data collection and research.” Full Story
1 Sep 2011: KCF Technologies Awarded SBIR Funds to Improve Longevity of WMD-Detection Tools; State College, PA - KCF Technologies has received funding for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) to improve tools to find and follow Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) before they can be used. 7 Aug 2011: KCF Technologies Awarded Phase II SBIR Contract for Opportunistic Energy Harvesting for Submarine Wireless Sensors; State College, PA - On April 22, 2011 KCF Technologies was awarded Phase II of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project to tap waste electromagnetic energy on the U.S. Navy’s most modern class of nuclear-powered fast attack submarines and “harvest” it instead to perform other crucial functions on these state-of-the-art ships. 28 Jul 2011: KCF Smart Tether-Equipped VideoRay ROVs Obtain $2.2 Million Contract to Modernize US Coast Guard Fleet; State College, PA - KCF Technologies' Smart Tether — a robust, ready-to-use technology that has revolutionized underwater navigation and positioning — is proud to have played an important role in helping VideoRay obtain a major contract by the Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office (CTTSO) of the US Department of Defense. 22 Feb 2011: KCF Technologies Releases Tether Tender for Smart Tether ROVs and OEM Orientation Sensor Modules at 2011 Underwater Intervention Conference; New Orleans, LA - KCF Technologies unveiled the Tether Tender for Smart Tether ROV users, and also the KCF Technologies Orientation Sensor for the underwater commercial industry at the three-day, 2011 Underwater Intervention Conference at New Orleans' Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. 31 Mar 2010: Smart Tether Search and Recovery Technology Using ROVs and SONAR; KCF Technologies has developed a Smart Tether system for Kongsberg-Mesotech sonar units which integrates Smart Tether positioning functionality with the Kongsberg Mesotech MS1000 software. This system provides a powerful package for quickly performing a comprehensive search of an area and easily documenting the results. KCF has successfully performed lake-bottom scans using this combined system. Full story.
15 Feb 2010: Integration of KCF Smart Tether with Kongsberg Mesotech MS1000; KCF Technologies is working with Kongsberg Mesotech, Ltd. to provide Smart Tether positioning for tripod sonar systems. KCF has developed an integration package which allows the Smart Tether to be used between the topside interface box and the sonar head. The Smart Tether software then calculates the position of the sonar head and supplies a live GPS position fix to the Kongsberg Mesotech MS1000 software. This allows the sonar head to be easily and accurately positioned in all conditions, even if there are currents moving the head or if the head drifts relative to the GPS marker as it is deployed. 18 Nov 2009: Divers Use KCF Smart Tether in Recovery of U.S.S. Westfield; Beginning November 18th, 2009, the Smart Tether was used with divers working to recover the sunken remains of the U.S.S. Westfield, which was scuttled at the intersection of the Texas City and Houston shipping channels near Galveston, Texas. Full story

3 Mar 2009: Underwater Intervention 2009; KCF Technologies Smart Tether Underwater Navigation System was on display at Underwater Intervention in New Orleans, LA, from March 3rd through 5th, 2009. VideoRay (www.videoray.com), the worldwide leader in ROV sales, prominently featured the Smart Tether as a real-time navigation system for inspection class ROVs. Divers, technical experts, military personnel and other interested technology seekers spent time driving the ROVs and experimenting with the innovative touchscreen navigation interface.
