Oil Quality Sensor Node (SD-OSN-2)
The Oil Quality Sensor Node is capable of reproducing the function of a traditional wired oil quality sensor in a much more convenient package which can be deployed and managed much more easily than wired sensors.
One Sensor, Two Parts
Oil Quality Transducer
This is a traditional industrial oil quality transducer that would typically be hard-wired to a data collection box. Oil quality transducers output either a voltage or a current proportional to the oil quality their sensing element is exposed to. The oil quality transducer must be plumbed into the fluid system, and exposed to the working fluid, e.g. via a "T" fitting in a pipe.
Wireless Oil Quality Sensor Node
KCF's Oil Quality Sensor Node connects to the oil quality transducer via a short cable and uses a wireless link to replace the traditional wired path back to the data collection unit, eliminating the need to run cables to every point where oil quality is monitored. The wireless Node does not need to be exposed to the process fluid being measured. It can be mounted magnetically or with a threaded stud anywhere in the vicinity of the oil quality transducer as allowed by the short transducer cable
Oil Quality Sensor Nodes provide health monitoring in the most hard-to-reach, rugged locations. Each node communicates via a direct wireless link to a Base Station, from which the data is imported into SmartDiagnostics® Software for viewing and analysis.
The system is highly configurable and scalable. A system can have hundreds of sensor points, each of which can be configured to transmit data on a user-selected frequency, and unique indicators can be implemented to warn users of potential machine health issues.
Easily installed without the downtime, expense, and labor costs of old-fashioned, hard-wired sensors. Simply place the sensors where you need them and within minutes they’ll transmit data. SmartDiagnostics® can predict failure before it occurs, saving money spent on unnecessary replacements and extending machine life. At the same time, energy costs are reduced, as properly maintained machines are more efficient.

The OSN is designed to be very energy efficient so that it can operate continuously for many years when powered by a 3.6 Volt battery or virtually indefinitely on a harvester.
The actual amount of power consumed (and therefore the effective battery life) is dictated by two factors:
- The frequency at which the sensor sends a heartbeat ping to the Base Station, and
- The frequency at which the sensor collects and transmits data to the Base Station.
The heartbeat ping takes very little energy so the primary driver of battery life is governed by the data collection frequency which you configure based on your business needs. The graph below illustrates how battery life varies with changes to collection frequency assuming the sensor heartbeats every four seconds.
