What's New In Version 3?

Version 3.0 Vibration Sensor Nodes have increased mechanical and chemical robustness, making them suitable for harsher conditions than ever before. Data compression has been improved by 2.5X, allowing wireless transmission of a longer time waveform and higher-resolution frequency spectrum. The sensors can easily transmit a higher density of data using DARTwireless™, and are powered by a CR123A battery, which can now be replaced without the need for tools. In a layout that can be configured for any plant or environment, as many as 100 sensor nodes can now send vibration data to each receiver. The sensors can be tuned to transmit data as often as needed for each application, and monitoring bands can be customized to alarm levels that you choose, ready to caution or warn you immediately when a vibration indicator changes to a level you specify.

Vibration Sensor Nodes provide health monitoring in the most hard-to-reach, rugged locations. Each node communicates via a direct wireless link to a Primary Receiver Node, from which the data is imported into SmartDiagnostics® Software for viewing and analysis.


The system is highly configurable and scalable. A system can have hundreds of sensor points, each of which can be configured to transmit data on a user-selected frequency, and unique indicators can be implemented to warn users of potential machine health issues.

Battery Life

The VSN is designed to be very energy efficient so that it can operate continuously for many years when powered by a 3.6 Volt battery.

The actual amount of power consumed (and therefore the effective battery life) is dictated by two factors:

  1. The frequency at which the sensor sends a heartbeat ping to the PRN, and
  2. The frequency at which the sensor collects and transmits vibration data to the PRN.

The heartbeat ping takes very little energy so the primary driver of battery life is governed by the vibration data collection frequency which you configure based on your business needs. The graph below illustrates how battery life varies with changes to collection frequency assuming the sensor heartbeats every four seconds.
